ATHLETIC CAREER
2009 HIGHLIGHTS
Looking back at his 2009 season, it is clear that Nathan White is headed in the right direction. Building on a breakout rookie year, Nathan
made his second season just as memorable, taking home five victories and positioning himself to make a smooth transition to professional
racing in 2010.
Perhaps the biggest highlight of the year for Nathan was his victory at the Hy-Vee Triathlon in his hometown of Des Moines. Quickly
becoming one of the more notable races on the pro circuit, the Hy-Vee Triathlon also attracts some of the top amateurs in the Midwest. This
season was no different, as two of Nathan's top rivals, Mark Harms (Madison, WI) and Devon Palmer (St. Paul, MN) were in attendance. After
solid swim and bike legs, Nathan was able to sprint away from Harms on the 10K leg and claim a 21-second victory.
Nathan achieved another milestone a few weeks later when he set a new personal-best time of 1:53:00 at Big Creek Tri 29. The competition
was fierce at this race as well--the event served as the USAT Midwest Regional Championship, and the top nine finishers all came in under two
hours. The victory marked Nathan's second consecutive victory at Big Creek.
In addition to these two headlining wins, Nathan also finished first at the Champions Tri in Austin, Texas, the Cy-Man Triathlon, and the
Toyota US Open Triathlon in Dallas. In the US Open race, Nathan split an outstanding 32:05 for the 10K run leg, another personal best.
2008 HIGHLIGHTS
In his first full season, Nathan began to realize some of his vast potential as a triathlete. After kicking off the season at the Avia Wildflower
Triathlon, Nathan burst onto the amateur triathlon scene when he finished third at the highly competitive Pigman Triathlon. He followed that
performance with runner-up finishes at the Hy-Vee and Life Time Fitness triathlons, two of the Midwest's most prestigious races. Nathan picked
up his first career win at Big Creek Tri 28, a victory sweetened by the fact that it came near his hometown of Des Moines.
After running his winning streak to three with victories at Hickory Grove and Cy-Man, Nathan cemented his status as a force to be reckoned
with at Age Group Nationals, finishing third overall in a personal best time of 1:56:03. Nathan concluded the 2008 campaign at the Toyota
U.S. Open Triathlon in Dallas.
2007 HIGHLIGHTS
After graduating from UNI in May, Nathan competed in two sprint triathlons during the remainder of the 2007 season. In his triathlon debut,
Nathan finished second at the Quad Cities Triathlon in Davenport, Iowa, in a time 1:06:14. He would follow that up with another runner-up
finish at the Cy-Man Triathlon in Colo, Iowa, finishing in 1:04:00.
COLLEGE (2002-2007)
Nathan competed in cross country and track for the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Although he struggled with injuries for much
of his time as a Panther, Nathan still managed to post respectable performances, and was frequently counted on to be a contender at Missouri
Valley Conference (MVC) championship events. During his collegiate career, Nathan competed in seven MVC championship meets, and was the
leadoff leg on distance medley relay teams that won back-to-back MVC Indoor Championships in 2006 and 2007.
HIGH SCHOOL (1998-2002)
Nathan attended Southeast Polk High School in Runnells, Iowa. As a Ram, he competed in cross country, swimming, and track. Nathan
earned All-State honors in cross country in 2001, finishing ninth at the state championship in a time of 16:05 for 5K. In the pool, Nathan
competed at the state meet in each of his four years, qualifying individually in the 100-yd. and 200-yd. freestyle events as well as the 200-yd.
and 400-yd. freestyle relays. As a track athlete, Nathan's career was highlighted by a stellar senior season that saw him finish fourth in the
1600 (4:26.67) and 3200 (9:29.50) at the Drake Relays as well as qualify three events (800, 1600, 3200) to the state championship.
